Well, questions are being asked, historical research results are being challenged and the evidence is mounting.

For starters, did you know 3/4 of the cholesterol found in our blood is produced by the liver.  Really!  Then why are we told that foods high in saturated fats should be reduced from our diet?  Does that seem strange to you?

Cholesterol  never used to concern me, but after my last check up with my Doctor in August this year, it has become an issue.  I must admit that I knew nothing about Cholesterol other than it was in my blood and as long as the numbers were in the range, the Doc was happy and I had nothing to worry about.

But now, the Doc was not happy and unless I did something about it, medication was coming next.

Medication in the form of a Statin, the Cholesterol lowing drug with horrendous side effects like memory loss, muscle and joint pain topping the long list.

At this point I was seriously confused.

Firstly, every other result on my test had been in range.  According to these overall results, I was a  healthy 47 year old male.  Were these  Cholesterol numbers really of concern to me if everything else was great?  And were they bad enough for me to take a drug with serious side effects?

Secondly, I was eating very healthy.  In the last 12 months I had removed all processed carbohydrates from my diet.  Now my diet consisted of moderate protein and fats and heaps of salad and vegetables.  Well, this was true except on Saturdays when I eat whatever I feel like.

I walked out of the Doctors surgery determined to learn everything that I could about Cholesterol. I wanted to be able to make informed decisions!

I want to share what I have learnt with you, it will change your life. It has certainly changed mine.

“Worst case scenario is you have 6 months to live, best case is 12 months.” The Doctor’s words crashed about him like a stack of saucepans falling onto a hard kitchen floor.  That was 6 weeks ago and now Bill woke up every day intent to live every moment.

Bill’s focus had shifted to help others to get out of the zombie like existence of work, eat, sleep, repeat that had become his life.

An article in the local newspaper had attracted media attention about Bill’s plight to raise awareness to live everyday and today he was being interviewed by a local Television reporter.

Bill thought for a moment. “Well it sucks.  But I have lived more in the last 6 weeks then I have in the last 10 years.  I take every chance now, I put nothing off and I focus on everything I do.”

Bill paused and then said “I have a question for you.  How does it feel pretending that you actually have 6 months to live? There is no garauntee for any of us. Sometimes we forget that every day is a gift.  I did before, but I don’t now.  I want everyone to use me as a reminder to wake everyday with determination to make it count.  Connect with people, talk, share, grow, give, achieve, feel joy and be an inspiration in the lives of others, every single day. You only regret the things you don’t do,” he explained.

Bill’s watched as his words seeped into the reporter’s mind.  He handed the microphone to the camerman, took his phone from his pocket and started dialing…..

Keto – Keep it simple and just start.

I was reminded today of the need to keep things simple.

If you’re struggling to change your diet, just pick one meal like breakfast, and make the change you want to make there.

Review this list and just pick something for breakfast.

My goto meal is bacon, scrambled eggs, avocado and spinach or fresh mushrooms cooked in coconut oil.

I used to think that there was no way I could start the day without fruit toast and jam.

Now it is an easy decision.

One day a week, I can eat as much fruit toast, almond croissants, crepes or whatever else I like.

The other six days I eat:

Bacon and eggs for breakfast (if I don’t have butter coffee – see earlier post)

Lunch is protein (usually a tin of Tuna or leftover dinner from the night before), salad and sour cream.

Dinner is steak/chicken/salmon with a creamy sauce and green veges.

It is super easy.

It is super tasty.

You won’t get hungry.

You will lose weight and preserve muscle.

Let’s do this – what is the worst thing that can happen?

If you want tomorrow to be different, you have to do something different today!

So let us experiment, starting today.

The 4 week Experiment in weekly steps:

Week 1:

Jump on the scales and look in the mirror, take a photo. This is your start point.

Change to Keto breakfast and eat it for 6 days.

Pick a Treat Day. I use Saturday. Eat every treat that you have wanted all week. My Day looks like this, almond crossaints x 2 for breaky, 2 doughnuts for morning tea, crepe and icecream for lunch or bread platter, pasta for dinner followed by Churos and Icecream or Brownies and icecream.  Enjoy – I look forward to Saturdays so much.

Week 2:

Continue Keto breakfast.

Start Keto lunch.

Enjoy treat day!

Week 3:

Continue Keto breakfast.

Continue Keto lunch.

Start Keto dinner.

Enjoy treat day!

Week 4:

Continue Keto breakfast.

Continue Keto lunch.

Continue Keto dinner.

Jump on the scales just before Treat Day – yep amazing Hey. Seriously, how easy was that!
