We NEED cholesterol.

In an article by Luke Cafferty author at Positive Health Wellness (link below) he sheds light on how important Cholesterol is in the body.

Cholesterol is an organic molecule that has a fatty, wax-like texture that we (we as in humans) cannot live without.

It is an integral component that makes up the cellular membrane lining every single cell within the human body. Cholesterol allows the cellular membrane to maintain a structure that is fluid, while also keeping the delicate balance between extracellular fluid and intracellular fluid constant.

Additionally, cholesterol is a key component in the production of hormones such as testosterone, oestrogen, and cortisol.

Due to the essential role that cholesterol plays in our bodies, we have developed some extremely effective mechanisms to produce cholesterol at a cellular level. The amount of cholesterol we produce significantly outweighs the amount of dietary cholesterol we could consume daily.

Please read the last sentence again and then consider this.  Our bodies regulate the amount of Cholesterol in our body.  Consume less Cholesterol by reducing the amount of saturated fat in our diets and our body compensates by producing more Cholesterol. So why then do Doctors prescribe Statin medication to reduce cholesterol?  Statin medications that have serious side effects with the aim of altering the bodies natural process to regulate cholesterol.

The real culprits that cause cardiovascular disease are identified below, but if you want to really learn about the role that cholesterol plays in the body, you must read Cholesterol Clarity.

Jimmy Moore, a prominent and highly respected health blogger and podcaster, has teamed up with Dr. Eric Westman, a practicing internist and nutrition researcher, to bring you one of the most unique books you’ll ever read on Cholesterol (4.7 stars on Amazon, featuring exclusive interviews with twenty-nine of the world’s top experts from various fields to give you the complete lowdown on cholesterol. If you’re worried about any confusing medical jargon in this book, don’t be—this critical information is broken down for you to grasp what is really important and what is not.

The article above continues…….

Recent research has suggested that dietary cholesterol does not influence blood cholesterol levels negatively, and the consumption of foods naturally high in both cholesterol and saturated fat (such as eggs) can increase blood HDL levels, decreasing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Highly processed oils and sugars appear to be the real culprits, both of which have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease.

As such, we should try to avoid eating highly processed foods, and should aim to increase our consumption of naturally occurring foods such as vegetables, dairy, and other meat based products as a way to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease!

Cholesterol is good for you!

Start a free Audible trial todayHow can this be true?  All we hear is Cholesterol will clog your arteries a lead to heart disease.  So what has changed?

Well, questions are being asked, historical research results are being challenged and the evidence is mounting.

For starters, did you know 3/4 of the cholesterol found in our blood is produced by the liver.  Really!  Then why are we told that foods high in saturated fats should be reduced from our diet?  Does that seem strange to you?

Cholesterol  never used to concern me, but after my last check up with my Doctor in August this year, it has become an issue.  I must admit that I knew nothing about Cholesterol other than it was in my blood and as long as the numbers were in the range, the Doc was happy and I had nothing to worry about.

But now, the Doc was not happy and unless I did something about it, medication was coming next.

Medication in the form of a Statin, the Cholesterol lowing drug with horrendous side effects like memory loss, muscle and joint pain topping the long list.

At this point I was seriously confused.

Firstly, every other result on my test had been in range.  According to these overall results, I was a  healthy 47 year old male.  Were these  Cholesterol numbers really of concern to me if everything else was great?  And were they bad enough for me to take a drug with serious side effects?

Secondly, I was eating very healthy.  In the last 12 months I had removed all processed carbohydrates from my diet.  Now my diet consisted of moderate protein and fats and heaps of salad and vegetables.  Well, this was true except on Saturdays when I eat whatever I feel like.

I walked out of the Doctors surgery determined to learn everything that I could about Cholesterol. I wanted to be able to make informed decisions!

I want to share what I have learnt with you, it will change your life. It has certainly changed mine.

If you or anyone you know has ever had a Cholesterol issue, or issue with weight gain or dietary concerns, this blog is a must.

How long have you got?

“Worst case scenario is you have 6 months to live, best case is 12 months.” The Doctor’s words crashed about him like a stack of saucepans falling onto a hard kitchen floor.  That was 6 weeks ago and now Bill woke up every day intent to live every moment.

Bill’s focus had shifted to help others to get out of the zombie like existence of work, eat, sleep, repeat that had become his life.

An article in the local newspaper had attracted media attention about Bill’s plight to raise awareness to live everyday and today he was being interviewed by a local Television reporter.

“Can I ask you anything?”the reporter queeried, intent on diving into Bill’s resilient attitude.

“Sure, anything you like”, Bill replied.

With the camera rolling, the reporter dealt with the nicities and then asked, “How does it feel to know that you only have 6 months to live?”

Bill thought for a moment. “Well it sucks.  But I have lived more in the last 6 weeks then I have in the last 10 years.  I take every chance now, I put nothing off and I focus on everything I do.”

Bill paused and then said “I have a question for you.  How does it feel pretending that you actually have 6 months to live? There is no garauntee for any of us. Sometimes we forget that every day is a gift.  I did before, but I don’t now.  I want everyone to use me as a reminder to wake everyday with determination to make it count.  Connect with people, talk, share, grow, give, achieve, feel joy and be an inspiration in the lives of others, every single day. You only regret the things you don’t do,” he explained.

Bill’s watched as his words seeped into the reporter’s mind.  He handed the microphone to the camerman, took his phone from his pocket and started dialing…..

Keto – Keep it simple and just start.

Start a free Audible trial today

I was reminded today of the need to keep things simple.

If you’re struggling to change your diet, just pick one meal like breakfast, and make the change you want to make there.

Review this list and just pick something for breakfast.

My goto meal is bacon, scrambled eggs, avocado and spinach or fresh mushrooms cooked in coconut oil.

I used to think that there was no way I could start the day without fruit toast and jam.

Now it is an easy decision.

One day a week, I can eat as much fruit toast, almond croissants, crepes or whatever else I like.

The other six days I eat:

Bacon and eggs for breakfast (if I don’t have butter coffee – see earlier post)

Lunch is protein (usually a tin of Tuna or leftover dinner from the night before), salad and sour cream.

Dinner is steak/chicken/salmon with a creamy sauce and green veges.

It is super easy.

It is super tasty.

You won’t get hungry.

You will lose weight and preserve muscle.

Let’s do this – what is the worst thing that can happen?

If you want tomorrow to be different, you have to do something different today!

So let us experiment, starting today.

The 4 week Experiment in weekly steps:

Week 1:

Jump on the scales and look in the mirror, take a photo. This is your start point.

Change to Keto breakfast and eat it for 6 days.

Pick a Treat Day. I use Saturday. Eat every treat that you have wanted all week. My Day looks like this, almond crossaints x 2 for breaky, 2 doughnuts for morning tea, crepe and icecream for lunch or bread platter, pasta for dinner followed by Churos and Icecream or Brownies and icecream.  Enjoy – I look forward to Saturdays so much.

Week 2:

Continue Keto breakfast.

Start Keto lunch.

Enjoy treat day!

Week 3:

Continue Keto breakfast.

Continue Keto lunch.

Start Keto dinner.

Enjoy treat day!

Week 4:

Continue Keto breakfast.

Continue Keto lunch.

Continue Keto dinner.

Jump on the scales just before Treat Day – yep amazing Hey. Seriously, how easy was that!

Please tell me how you went – I will cheer you on!

Just keep it super simple and change your life in 4 short weeks.

Read Keto Clarity or listen to it for the full 4 weeks. Reread/relisten to it if you finish – it is inspiring hearing the experts talk about what you are doing and how your body is changing in response to your diet.

Want to enjoy swimming more – you must meet Shinji Takeuchi

Start a free Audible trial today

I love Shinji, he has changed the way that I look at a swimming pool.

This week I had the amazing meditative experience of gliding through the water.  My mind wandered and I watched in disbelief as the tiles glided by 6 feet below me. Occasionally I felt my body tense and the familiar feeling of fighting to get my head out of the water would return.

Back to my mantra – Stretch – Pull – Glide…………….

In a moment I was out of the struggle and back to watching the tiles slide under me. This is so awesome!!

On my first attempt at the Shinji method, I managed to swim 500 meters.

On my second attempt, two days later, I swam one kilometer, without stopping and I could have done more only my son was patiently waiting for me to finish.

Oh, and I have not swum laps for at least 5 years!

“Did you watch me swimming mate?” I blurted at him when I get out of the pool.

“Yep” he casually responded, without a hint of interest, typical of a teenager.

Maybe he would be more impressed if he understood how different this experience was to my history of swimming.

Prior to this week, I hated it.

Every stroke was a fight.  A fight for air, a fight for momentum, a fight for traction in a wet, slippery, world.  It was not fun, it was not a meditative relaxing activity, it sucked.  I had to psych myself up to practice for a couple of weeks just to get through the 500 meter swim that I needed to pass my fitness test.

This week, that all disappeared.

This week was Stretch – Pull – Glide.

I just had to relax and let my arms pull me through the water.  When I got tense, I struggled. When I relaxed, I slipped back into the meditative beauty of effortless movement.  I am no Shinji, not yet, but I am not the thrashing machine that I was the week before.

More than anything, this week has taught me that I can learn very very fast, even if it is something that I have been doing all of my life.

I just need to deconstruct the the activity and sequence the learning.  This was so simple and it is crazy to think how much I have struggled to swim in the past.  So what is next, what else can I learn in super fast time?

Thankyou Tim Ferris! Check out Tim’s book, The 4-Hour Chef where you can find everything that you need to know about meta learning or learning super fast!  Tim describes this book as a book on meta learning disguised as a cook book.  Well, I just learnt how to swim  from this cook book – so I guess he is right.

And here is Shinji Takeuchi in all of his elegance.  Enjoy : )

If you have not already, take some time to discover the truth behind Cholesterol and what you should be eating for optimal health.

I will give you a hint, it is not bread, pasta or rice.

Jumping – Good for the Lymph System

Start a free Audible trial today

A video of Tony Robins jumping before going stage on popped up on my U tube feed.   Apparently I had searched for something to do with Tony and now Google was serving up what it thought I wanted.  Nothing like getting advice from my phone : )

But I was intrigued.  Why is he doing this?

Love him or hate him, he is good, very good at what he does.  The reason for his success is that he has honed his skills over time, developing a suite of tools and tricks to help him get into the emotional state that he needs to influence people.

So why jumping?

Turns out that there is an excellent reason for this and benefits are not restricted to super heroes of the self empowerment world.  We can all benefit from this and I will share how I use this drill and a bazaar thing that happened to me recently, but first check out what the experts have to say.

Dave Scrivens, Certified Lymphologist had the following to say about jumping in his article at https://www.wellbeingjournal.com/rebounding-good-for-the-lymph-system/

Extract here:

The body has a built-in need for activation.  Without adequate movement, the cells are left stewing in their own waste products and starving for nutrients, a situation that contributes to arthritis, cancer and other degenerative diseases.

Vigorous exercise such as rebounding [jumping on a therapeutic mini-trampoline] is reported to increase lymph flow by 15 to 30 times.

Let me jump in here.  You don’t need a trampoline.  You can jump anywhere or you can skip rope.

Rebounding’s alternating weightlessness and double gravity produce a pumping action that pulls out waste products from the cells and forces into them oxygen and nutrition from the bloodstream.

The Detoxification Effect of Rebounding

The lymphatic system is the metabolic garbage can of the body. It rids you of toxins such as dead and cancerous cells, nitrogenous wastes, infectious viruses, heavy metals, and other assorted junk cast off by the cells. The movement performed in rebounding provides the stimulus for a free-flowing system that drains away these potential poisons.

OK so this is where I got really interested.  Will it work if I just bounce a couple of times, say 10 -30 times?  How can I build this into my day.  What is the minimum effective dose as Tim Ferriss would say (I love using this as a lens for everything!)

Read on for more benefits:

The Muscular Effect of Rebounding

James White, Ph.D., director of research and rehabilitation in the physical education department at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD), has explained how jumping for health offers a true physical strengthening effect to the muscles.

An advocate of rebounding for athletic conditioning, White uses the rebounder in his rehabilitation program at UCSD. “When you jump, jog, and twist on this [jumping] device, you can exercise for hours without getting tired. It’s great practice for skiing, it improves your tennis stroke, and it’s a good way to burn off calories and lose weight,” says White.

Other benefits include:

  • 20 minutes of rebounding = 1 hour of running for cardiovascular workout
  • Easy on the bones and joints (when using a therapeutic rebounder)
  • Rebounding strengthens the heart muscle
  • Profound body detoxification is possible
  • regular bowel movements to chronically constipated persons.
  • Digestion is improved .

It is important to realize that as you age, your body may become more toxic due to the pollutants in today’s world. It is also important to realize that if you have a disease, your cellular structure is compromised, as your cells are already being robbed of the correct oxygen, mineral and nutrient compounds that they need to stay healthy.

So this is my drill:

Every time I walk downstairs at my home, I jump 10 times = 60 jumps yesterday at home.

Every time I get out of the car – I jump 5 times = 25 jumps.

85 jumps for the day and I feel amazing afterwards, the image of Rocky Balboa comes to mind : )

So last week I got a cold. My usual cold routine is 2 weeks and it drives me crazy. This time it lasted 5 days and I jumped continually while unwell.

Coincidence?

Perhaps, whether it is science or placebo, it is only good for me.

Jumpt to it!
